V2X2MAP

Privacy Policy — V2X2MAP app

Last updated: 27 September 2026 · applies to V2X2MAP for iOS (2.0 and later, incl. CarPlay) and Android (1.5 and later, incl. Android Auto)

V2X2MAP ("the app") shows ITS-G5 / C-ITS radio messages from traffic lights and vehicles that an external ESP32-C5 receiver picks up and forwards to the app via Bluetooth LE (on Android also via USB). This policy explains which data the app uses and where it goes.

Summary

Location data

With your permission the app uses your device's location to show you on the map, to match you to the correct lane at a junction and to compute the distance to the traffic light. If you allow "Always" (iOS) or background access (Android), this also works while the device is locked and with CarPlay / Android Auto. The app only asks for this after a receiver has been connected once. Your location is not sent to the developer or to OpenTrafficMap.

Map service and place names

The map is provided by Apple Maps (iOS) or Google Maps / OpenStreetMap (Android); your device loads map data for the visible area from that provider. To determine the name of a junction and the country (for country-specific traffic-light display and units), the app occasionally sends a coordinate to the operating system's geocoding service (Apple or Google). Their privacy policies apply.

Optional MQTT forwarding

MQTT forwarding is off by default. If you turn it on, the app publishes the radio messages it receives from traffic lights and vehicles, together with a device identifier derived from the receiver's hardware (MAC) address, to the MQTT broker of the open project OpenTrafficMap (cits1.opentrafficmap.org, encrypted with TLS). Your own GPS position is not sent. The messages are broadcast publicly by traffic lights and vehicles for road safety; vehicle messages contain pseudonymous, regularly changing identifiers and the position and speed of those vehicles. If your own car is C-ITS capable, its messages may be included. You can turn the feature off at any time in Settings.

Diagnostics

"Send diagnostics" lets you share a technical log (receiver connection, received messages, errors, device model, OS version, settings). Positions in it are rounded to about 100 m. The app sends nothing automatically: you choose the recipient in the share sheet. If you send it to us, we use it only to fix problems and delete it afterwards.

Data stored on your device

Drive recordings (radio captures), learned signal timings and settings are kept in the app's private storage. You can delete them in Settings; recordings are deleted automatically after the period you choose. They are never uploaded automatically. Deleting the app removes everything.

Permissions

Your rights

The developer receives no personal data about you through the app. If you have sent us diagnostics or an e-mail, you can ask at any time for access, correction or deletion. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.

Children

The app is not directed at children.

Changes

If the app changes so that it processes other data, we will update this policy and the date above.
